This Saturday at 1 p.m., tune in to WHRO-FM for the magnificent conclusion of Hector “Les Troyens.”
This historic performance from 1974, aired over two Saturdays, is an Artist’s Choice broadcast from Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin in honor of the Met’s first Music Director, Rafael Kubelik, who championed this monumental work.
This second part of the opera, “Les Troyens à Carthage (The Trojans in Carthage),” follows the warrior Aeneas, hero of Roman mythology, as he pursues his destiny after the downfall of Troy. It stars tenor Jon Vickers in the main role and mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig as Dido, Queen of Carthage. The cast also features Mignon Dunn, John Macurdy, Judith Blegen, and Kenneth Riegel. Rafael Kubelik conducts the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
