A Loving Sunday Night on Pickin and The Acoustic Highway

Celebrate a belated Valentines on Sunday Evening with three great hours of Americana Music celebrating Love and of course, the challenges it brings. On Pickin, we'll feature classic selections from Ralph Stanley, The Osborne Brothers, Mac Wiseman, Flatt and Scruggs, and plenty of others. Then on the Acoustic Highway, we'll have a few selections that are actually entitled "Valentines"- including tracks from Aoife O Donovan, Joe Ely, and Scott Kirby. Kirby, who lives in Key West, Florida made a stop at station a few years ago and performed live from the WHRV studios. We'll also hear from some local and regional musicians including Narissa Bond, The Gurleys, Bobby Plough, Doug Alan Wilcox, and Richmond based artist Pamela McCarthy. It's all about LOVE on Sunday night's Pickin and The Acoustic Highway. Tune in beginning at 7 for Pickin, then The Highway at 9, here on WHRV.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
