Charting New Music on The Best of Pickin

On this week's Best of Pickin, we'll hear some of the current charting releases including from the Buddy Melton " Blue Skies" album as well as new music from Chris Jones and the Night Drivers, Milan Miller, and the Band Newfound Road, who have reunited this year after disbanding in 2019 ( that actually was a second disbanding after breaking up previously in 2013). However, interest in the Ohio based band continued and this year, they once again are coming together and releasing new music. (I remember receiving their 2006 "Life in a Song" album when there was a renewed interest in Bluegrass Music during the "Oh Brother Phenom.") We'll also hear music from Tony Rice and Peter Rowan, Blue Highway, Chatham County Line, Jim Lauderdale and Larry Cordle. It's all on The Best of Pickin. Traditional and Progressive Bluegrass, Friday night 10-12 on WHRV.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
