Regional Artists Code Blue, The Grasscats, and Jim Masters, on The Best of Pickin

This week's Best of Pickin brings you a set of regional bands and artists with music from Code Blue, The Grasscats, and Jim Masters. Masters was just nominated this week for a Veer Music Award after releasing his album Redsky in 2025. He's been a frequent visitor on WHRV with appearances on the Acoustic Highway and the traditional Sunday before Christmas Holiday program. Also, music from Russel Moore and Third Tyme out, Jim Lauderdale, Tim O' Brien and Darrel Scott, and the new album from Danny Burns entitled "Southern Sky." Late night Friday - a perfect time to kick back and ease into the weekend with The Best of Pickin. Tune in 10pm-12am here on WHRV.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
