The first ‘This Just In’ brings New Classical Discoveries

Tune in to WHRO-FM this Saturday evening at 8:00 for the first “This Just In” of 2026, a program that will set the tone for a new year full of discoveries in recorded classical music.

Raymond Jones opens the year by completing a journey we’ve been following closely: Bach’s Cello Suite No. 6, performed by Inbal Megiddo. Released this fall on the Atoll label, Megiddo’s complete recording of the six suites has drawn attention for its narrative approach, as she associates this Sixth Suite with maturity and fulfillment, bringing the cycle to a powerful and affirmative close.

Romantic color comes next with Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Piano Quintet in E major, performed by pianist Orion Weiss alongside the Pacifica Quartet.

Two major symphonic statements round out the program. From Warner Classics’ newly released box set “Beecham – The Complete Stereo Recordings,” we’ll hear Sibelius’s Symphony No. 7 conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham. And from the ongoing London Symphony Orchestra Live cycle under Gianandrea Noseda comes Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7 “Leningrad,” a recording that continues to draw attention for its clarity and intensity.

Begin 2026 by listening forward. Discover what’s shaping today’s classical recording landscape with the first “This Just In” of the year, this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3, or online.
