‘The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay’ on WHRO-FM

The Metropolitan Opera’s 2025-26 season of Saturday matinee broadcasts continues this Saturday, January 3, with the network premiere of “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” by composer Mason Bates, with a libretto by Gene Scheer based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Michael Chabon.

Tune in to WHRO-FM at 1 p.m. to hear this thrilling performance from October 2, 2025, featuring baritone Andrzej Filońcyk as the artist Joe Kavalier, who escapes from Nazi-occupied Prague with dreams of making enough money in New York City to rescue his family.

Tenor Miles Mykkanen sings Joe’s Brooklynite cousin, Sam Clay, who teams up with him to create a hit comic book series about a fascism-fighting superhero called The Escapist. And mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce is the artist and humanitarian Rosa Saks, who falls in love with Joe.

The acclaimed cast also features Edward Nelson, Lauren Snouffer, Craig Colclough, Ellie Dehn, Richard Croft, Eve Gigliotti, and Patrick Carfizzi, accompanied by the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

“The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” created a sensation when it opened at the Metropolitan Opera last fall, and now listeners have the opportunity to experience this contemporary opera this Saturday at 1 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3, and online, through the Robert K. Johnson Foundation-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
