WHRV Tiny Desk Concert Series debuts Sunday Night with Cari Lacey

This Sunday night, the WHRO Tiny Desk Concert series debuts with Norfolk resident Cari Lacey. This talented singer-songwriter originally hails from the Central Valley of California and cites legendary country artists like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard as influences. Since landing in Virginia, she's made quite a name for herself in the Hampton Roads and Richmond music scene(s). She recently competed in season 23 of American Idol where she showcased her talent in Hollywood. On the WHRO Tiny Desk concert, she talks inspiration for her music, her approach to the music industry, and performs both original and cover tunes. Cari Lacey kicks off the WHRO Tiny Desk Concerts- her music- her thoughts- her hour. Tune in Sunday night at 6 on WHRV for the first in a series of concerts captured live from the WHRO studios.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
