The Metropolitan Opera’s 2025-26 Saturday matinee season continues this weekend with a fierce, passionate burst of Italian verismo. This Saturday at 1 p.m., WHRO-FM brings you a live broadcast of Umberto Giordano’s “Andrea Chénier.”
At the center of the drama stands the historical figure of the poet André Chénier, portrayed by Polish tenor Piotr Beczala. Opposite him, soprano Sonya Yoncheva takes on the role of Maddalena. Their doomed love story rises above the violence and political fervor engulfing the revolutionary Paris.
They are joined by baritone Igor Golovatenko in the role of the servant-turned-revolutionary Carlo Gérard, and a rich supporting cast including Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Siphokazi Molteno, Olesya Petrova, Brenton Ryan, Guriy Gurev, and Maurizio Muraro.
On the podium, Principal Guest Conductor Daniele Rustioni leads the Met Orchestra and Chorus live from the Metropolitan Opera.
Join us this Saturday at 1 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3, or listen online, for an afternoon where music, history, and passion ignite on the Met stage.
