Grammy nominees Jason Carter, Sierrra Hull, Billy Strings on The Best of Pickin

Catch the Best of Pickin with a sample of this year's grammy nominees in Bluegrass Music. We'll hear from Billy Strings, Sierra Hull, and Jason Carter. Also, music from Greensky Bluegrass and their celebration of 25 years in Bluegrass with their new release simply entitled XXV. And, we'll have classic Bluegrass from famed duo Reno and Smiley and their final release from 1971 entitled Together Again. Sadly, it was their final album as Red Smiley would pass away a short time after its release. And more traditional bluegrass from the Seldom Scene, the Country Gentlemen, Larry Sparks, Del McCoury and others. We'll also hear a track from one of the hottest acts on the scene with the Kody Norris Show. His latest release is entitled Highfalutin Hillbilly. Recover from that big dinner and celebrate the holiday weekend with The Best of Pickin. Friday night 10-12 on WHRV.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
