Strauss’s ‘Arabella’ closes the WFMT Opera Series

This Saturday at 1 p.m., WHRO-FM 90.3 brings the WFMT Opera Series to a close with a luminous performance of Richard Strauss’s romantic comedy “Arabella,” a late-Romantic work filled with elegance and charm.

Broadcast from the Vienna State Opera, this production features an exceptional cast led by radiant Camilla Nylund in the title role. As Arabella, she navigates a world of Viennese society, family expectations, and the search for true love.

She is joined by Sabine Devieilhe as her devoted sister Zdenka, and the commanding Michael Volle as Mandryka, the rugged yet noble suitor whose arrival turns Arabella’s life in an unexpected and hopeful direction.

The cast also includes Margaret Plummer, Wolfgang Bankl, and Michael Laurenz, supported by the Vienna State Opera Chorus and the superb Vienna State Opera Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Christian Thielemann.

Join us this Saturday at 1 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3, or stream online, and enjoy Strauss at his most elegant, the perfect finale to an exceptional season of opera.

And while this marks the end of the WFMT Opera Series, the opera season on WHRO is far from over. Starting December 6, WHRO-FM brings you the highly anticipated new season from the Metropolitan Opera, continuing your Saturday afternoons filled with world-class performances.
