Peter Rowand and Tony Rice on The Best of Pickin

This week's Best of Pickin features a classic 2007 release from Bluegrass pioneers Tony Rice and Peter Rowan. The two teamed up with Sharon Gilchrist on Mandolin and Bryn Davies on Bass. The cd was well received, and they toured behind it including a performance at Chesapeake City Park. Also, new music from the North Carolina based Burnett Sisters Band, and fiddle player Jason Carter. And, with all the interest in the forthcoming Springsteen flick that is getting ready to open, a track from Holly Williams who is featured on the cd " Dead Man's Town: A Tribute to Springsteen's Born in the USA." It's all happening on The Best of Pickin. Friday night at 10 on 89.5 WHRV.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
