This Saturday at 1 p.m., tune in to WHRO-FM for a rare treat: Gustave Charpentier’s “Louise,” broadcast from the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence.
A masterpiece of French verismo, “Louise” tells the story of a young Parisian seamstress torn between her love for the artist Julien and the constraints of her working-class family. Her desire for freedom and self-expression makes “Louise” not just a love story, but also a moving portrait of a woman striving for independence in turn-of-the-century Paris.
The production stars Elsa Dreisig as Louise, Adamn Smith as Julien, Sophie Koch as the Mother, and Nicolas Courjal as the Father, with Giacomo Sagripanti conducting the Lyon Opera and Chorus.
Don’t miss this evocative and beautifully orchestrated opera, this Saturday at 1 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3 and also online, through our Media Player or smart devices.
