This Saturday at 8:00 p.m., join Raymond Jones on WHRO-FM for three hours of the newest classical releases. From beloved masterpieces to rarely heard gems, “This Just In” is your chance to experience the latest recordings making waves in the classical world.

This week’s program brings Hector Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique,” heard in a powerful new recording by the Orchestre de Paris under the baton of Klaus Mäkelä. Part of the recent Decca release “Hector Berlioz – Maurice Ravel,” it captures all the drama and brilliance of Berlioz’s groundbreaking score.
We’ll continue exploring the Brilliant Classics label “Nordic Classics” series with Carl Nielsen’s Symphony No. 5, featuring the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Theodore Kuchar.
From Naxos comes Giovanni Sgambati’s Piano Concerto in G minor, performed by pianist Massimiliano Damerini with Francesco La Vecchia leading the Rome Symphony Orchestra.
And rounding out the evening, we’ll hear an orchestration by Charles Ives of Franz Schubert’s “Military March No.1,” performed by the Symphonic Orchestra of Navarre under James Sinclair, from another new Naxos release.
If it’s new in the world of classical music, you’ll hear it on “This Just In,” this Saturday at 8 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3, or stream online through our Media Player or your smart device.
