Friday night's Best of Pickin features music from the Lost Notebooks tribute to the great Hank Williams. The 2011 compilation release includes tracks from Bob Dylan, Rodney Crowell, Vince Gill, Jack White, Holly Williams and others. Also, music from Laurie Lewis and her "Trees" album. And, a track from a rediscovered 1994 release entitled " Rhythm Country and Blues" that paired Americana artists with R and G greats. The album debuted at the top of the country charts and went to number 15 on the R and B/Hip-Hop Charts. Trisha Yearwood and Aaron Neville performing the Patsy Cline classic "I Fall to Pieces" was a much-watched video after the album's release. We'll hear Marty Stuart teaming with the Staple Singers on a cover of "The Weight." Also, selections from country music icons Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, as well as music from Greensky Bluegrass, The Grasscats, Red Camel Collective and others. Great Americana Music on a late-night Friday 10-12 on 89.5 WHRV.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
