Tune in late night Friday for The Best of Pickin, with music from the I'm With Her Trio. The group consists of three Americana superstars- Aoife O'Donovan, Sara Watkins, and Sarah Jarosz. Aoife O 'Donovan began her career as a founding member of the progressive Bluegrass Band Crooked Still and, she was a regular contributor to the famed NPR Program " A Prairie Home Companion." Sarah Jarosz burst onto the scene with her debut studio album, Song Up in Her Head in 2009. She has won four Grammy Awards for her work. Sara Watkins is a founding member of Nickel Creek and has toured and worked with the Decemberists and Jackson Browne. Also, music from traditional Bluegrass greats Bobby Osborne, Reno and Smiley, and Del Mccoury. And a solid set from The Yonder Mountain String Band, North Carolina based Chatham County Line, and the Henhouse Prowlers. Lots to hear- so stay home and tune in- It's The Best of Pickin. Friday night 10-12 on WHRV.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
