New Music from Mary Chapin Carpenter On the Highway

Tune in Sunday night for this week's Acoustic Highway with new music from five-time Grammy winner Mary Chapin Carpenter. Her new release "Personal History" was written just as the pandemic was winding down. The aptly titled " What Did You Miss" is a direct reflection of those lost years. We'll hear several tracks from the release. Also, a set from local and regional artists Skip Friel, Ron Fetner, and Bobby Plough. And a track from Kathy Mattea's "Pretty Bird" release that she cites as her comeback album after being out of music for time. She toured behind the album and performed in Virginia Beach right after its 2018 release. There's great music on The Acoustic Highway. Sunday night at 9 on 89.5.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
