Celebrating PRIDE on the Acoustic Highway

Hampton Roads Pride

We're celebrating PRIDE on this week's Acoustic Highway. Tune in for our annual program with music from Tret Fure, Narissa Bond, Tom Goss, Catie Curtis, Brandy Clark, and plenty of others. Tom Goss was a fixture for years in the Washington DC musical community before relocating to California and Tret Fure has been a fixture on countless WHRO shows and productions and is a great friend to Public Media. Brandy Clark appeared on the program during last year's Virginia Arts Festival and being a fan of women's basketball (she played in college), we shared how Old Dominion put women's basketball on the map back in the 70s and 80s! And be sure to stop by the WHRO tent during Saturday's PRIDEFEST at Town Point Park to grab some great swag. It's a PRIDEFEST weekend at WHRO and The Acoustic Highway. Saturday 12-6 at Town Point Park and Sunday at 9pm on 89.5 WHRV

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
