A Celebration of Sly & the Family Stone
An hour-long tribute to the legendary Sly Stone, who passed away Monday, June 9 at age 82. The special features music from the band’s most influential years—late 1960s to early ’70s—and explores the impact of this multi-racial, multi-genre group whose message of unity and joy resonated in a time of cultural unrest, with commentary from Greg Kot, Holly Gleason, Tammy Kernodle, Aaron Cohen, Jon Spurney, John Kruth, and radio host Gregg McVicar.
Includes archival interviews with Sly Stone, Larry Graham, Cynthia Robinson, Freddie Stone, and Greg Errico.
Saturday, June 14 – 7:00 PM on WHRV
(*Program will also air Saturday, 6/14, at 4 PM on WFOS.)
The Epic Journey of Brian Wilson
A one-hour tribute to Brian Wilson, whose death at age 82 was announced Wednesday, June 11. This moving special was written and produced by Gardner Campbell, a longtime Wilson admirer and college English professor who has taught at Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University.
The program blends Campbell’s heartfelt and well-researched reflections with a curated mix of Wilson’s most iconic work—both with The Beach Boys and as a solo artist.
