Celebrate June, Summer, and Pride on The Acoustic Highway

Tret Fure

The Acoustic Highway celebrates the arrival of June and all things Summer and Pride on this week's program. We'll hear from Kyle Carey, Tret Fure, Narissa Bond, Tom Goss, Dave Mallet and plenty of others. Dave Mallet released a cd years ago that featured him live in performance and the anthem "Summer of My Dreams" which became a staple of his concerts. And, with the arrival of Pride Month activities, we'll have a set from Narissa Bond, Tret Fure, and Tom Goss. Goss was staple of the DC music scene before moving to LA. Years ago, he appeared at Hampton Roads Pridefest. His latest album (2023) is entitled "Remember What It Feels Like." Also, new music from Texas based singer-songwriter Crys Mathews, who has a new cd out entitled" Reclamation." It's a jam-packed Highway and just perfect to wrap up your weekend. Sunday night at 9 on WHRV.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
