Join host Raymond Jones this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. on WHRO-FM for “This Just In,” your weekly guide to the latest in classical music recordings. This week's program features a diverse selection of newly released performances, offering fresh interpretations of both well-known masterpieces and rediscovered gems.

The evening begins with the Aurora Orchestra's innovative rendition of Mozart's Symphony No. 41, the "Jupiter." Known for their memorized performances, the Aurora Orchestra brings a unique vitality to Mozart's final symphony, capturing its grandeur and complexity in a way that feels both intimate and expansive.

Next, we delve into the chamber music realm with pianist Robert Levin, violinist Noah Bendix-Balgley, and cellist Peter Wiley performing Schubert's Piano Trio No. 1. This collaboration showcases the trio's cohesive interplay and deep understanding of Schubert's lyrical and structural nuances.

The program continues with a rare treat: Ralph Vaughan Williams’s suite “Richard II: A Concert Fantasy,” performed by the Kent Orchestra under the baton of James Ross. This orchestral work has been beautifully arranged for concert performance, highlighting the composer’s dramatic and lyrical sensibilities.

A highlight of the evening is Yuja Wang's performance of Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1, accompanied by the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Andris Nelsons. Part of a recent release commemorating the 50th anniversary of Shostakovich's death, Wang's interpretation is noted for its agility and expressive depth, bringing new life to this dynamic concerto.

Finally, the program features the world premiere recording of Spanish composer Conrado del Campo's String Quartet No. 8, performed by Quatuor Diotima. This recording sheds light on del Campo's richly polyphonic and chromatic style, offering a compelling addition to the 20th-century chamber music repertoire.

Tune in to “This Just In” this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3 – or online through the Media Player – for an evening of exceptional new classical recordings, thoughtfully curated to enrich your listening experience.
