The Metropolitan Opera’s Saturday matinee broadcast season continues this Saturday with a performance of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore.” This timeless tragedy intertwines a story of passionate love, fierce rivalry, and a family vendetta against the backdrop of civil unrest.

The broadcast, recorded last October, stars tenor Michael Fabiano as the troubadour Manrico and soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen as Leonora, the noblewoman who risks everything for love. They are accompanied by mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton as vengeful Azucena, baritone Igor Golovatenko as towering Count di Luna, and Suffolk-born bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green as the loyal captain Ferrando of the Count. The powerful cast brings Verdi’s dramatic score to life under the baton of conductor Daniele Callegari, who leads the Metropolitan Opera Chorus and Orchestra.

Filled with some of the most electrifying music Verdi ever composed, “Il Trovatore” offers unforgettable moments of soaring passion, intense drama, and stirring ensemble scenes. Tune in to WHRO-FM 90.3 – or stream online – this Saturday at 1:00 p.m., for a dazzling afternoon of opera splendor by a few of the finest singers of our time in a fiery performance from the Met Opera’s stage.
