The Best of Pickin to feature Sister Sadie on this week's program

Tune in for late night progressive and traditional Bluegrass on The Best of Pickin, with music this week from the all-female Bluegrass band “Sister Sadie.” They recently were on the Grand Ole Opry in performance.  Also, music from The Dead South, Carolina Blue, Larry Rice, and Bobby Osborne.  We’ll also hear new music from Dan Tyminski and his new lp “Live from the Ryman.”  Tyminski is the powerhouse behind Alison Krauss and her “Union Station Band.”  He has won 14 Grammys and is one of the key vocalists with the Soggy Bottom Boys, made famous in the movie “Oh Brother Where Art Thou.”  Prepare for some great late-night Bluegrass and kick off your weekend with The Best of Pickin.  Friday night at 11 on WHRV

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
