Pickin on WHRV remembers the great fiddle player Bobby Hicks on this week’s show. Hicks passed away August 16th after performing for over fifty years with some of the greats of the genre. The ten-time Grammy award winner shared stages with Bill Monore, Jesse McReynolds, Ricky Skaggs, Porter Waggoner, and Jim Eanes. He was a fixture in Las Vegas with Judy Lynn for seven years. He was a member of the Grand Ole Opry and was inducted into both the International Bluegrass Hall of Fame and the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. Bluegrass historian Gary Reid said that Hicks was “still at the top of his game as he entered his seventh decade of performing.” Hicks released ten albums and was still performing just weeks before his passing. We’ll hear several of his recordings as we remember one of the greats who built the genre. Join host Harold Smith as Pickin remembers Bobby Hicks. Sunday night at 7 on WHRV.
