Pickin on WHRV this week returns to Host Harold Smith’s Pinnacle Series, featuring bands when they were at the very peak of their artistic careers and producing music that would help to define the Bluegrass genre. The Osborne Brothers were influential musicians that straddled the first and second generation of bluegrass acts. Sonny Osborne had worked with Bill Monroe, and later they worked with the legendary Jimmy Martin. They also shared a stage with Red Allen and Mac Wiseman. Their classic 1967 “Rocky Top” was named the official Tennessee State Song in 1982. In 1973, they became the first Bluegrass group to perform at the White House and were members of the Grand Ole Opry and were inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Hall of Honor. Tune in to hear the duo that today is still revered as one of the truly great Americana artists. Sunday night at 7 on WHRV.
