Join Raymond Jones for a JoAnn Falletta Double-Header on 'This Just In'

David Adam Beloff

This Saturday evening at 8:00, tune in to WHRO FM 90.3 for an exciting three-hour journey of new classical releases on This Just In, hosted by Raymond Jones. This week, we celebrate a JoAnn Falletta double-header, featuring her remarkable work with two different orchestras.

First, we’ll sample JoAnn Falletta with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic as they perform "Wunderkammer" by the renowned composer Danny Elfman. Additionally, we’ll hear JoAnn conducting the Buffalo Philharmonic in “Three American Pieces” by Lukas Foss, showcasing her versatile conducting prowess.

Our program continues with the talented pianist Rochelle Sennet playing a work by Adolphus Hailstork titled “Five Friends,” and later on we’ll hear sensational young conductor Klaus Mäkelä leading the Orchestra of Paris in Igor Stravinsky’s ballet “Petrouchka.”

We’ll also feature Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9, performed by the Bruckner Orchestra of Linz. And, to wrap up the evening, we’ll enjoy the orchestral suite “Othello” by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.

And if you want more music curated by our beloved Raymond Jones, stay tuned on Sunday at 4 p.m. to greet our French friends on their Bastille Day. We have prepared a revolutionary repertoire that includes Dittersdorf's Symphony "The Capture of the Bastille," Mehul's "Chant National," Berlioz's "Solemn Mass," Haydn's tribute to poor Marie Antoinette with his Symphony No. 85, and that old favorite, "La Marseillaise."
