Explore Stephen Melillo’s New Work and More on 'A Local Touch' with Raymond Jones

Ian Malkin, Transversales Verdun

This Wednesday night at 9:00, tune in to WHRO FM 90.3 for an unforgettable musical evening with our beloved host, Raymond Jones, on his weekly program A Local Touch – Music with A Virginia Connection. This program celebrates Virginia's rich musical tradition, connecting our listeners with composers and artists who have made their mark in our community.

BHM local touch

In this week’s episode, Raymond Jones will welcome renowned Hampton Roads-based composer Stephen Melillo, who will share his latest musical adventure: "Stormworks Chapter 89: Worlds Within the World", recorded in February in Luxemburg. In an exclusive interview, Melillo will explain how each piece in this album is a paragraph of a story, allowing us to understand the album as a complete symphony or as a musical narrative.

The program will also feature the esteemed Takács Quartet performing Haydn’s String Quartet in B-flat, Opus 76, No. 4. This quartet, renowned worldwide for their virtuosity and interpretative sensitivity, will offer us an exquisite rendition of this classical work.

Our selection wouldn’t be complete without a gem from Beethoven, his Violin Concerto in D major, with the talented soloist Michael Ludwig, accompanied by the Virginia Symphony under the direction of JoAnn Falletta.

To top it off, we will hear a song from the late Richmond-born composer Mary Howe. Inspired by a castle in France, her piece will transport us to distant times and places, showcasing the evocative power of music.

Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy an exceptional night of music, celebrating the talent and connection of Virginia to the musical world. Join us this Wednesday at 9:00 PM on WHRO FM 90.3, or stream online, for A Local Touch. We look forward to having you with us!
