Embark on a Musical Road Trip: Discover 'Classical Americana' This Summer!

Fill up your tank and get ready to embark on a summer road trip like no other as WHRO-FM proudly presents "Classical Americana", an innovative 13-part series hosted by the acclaimed pianist and broadcaster Lara Downes, and produced by Classical California.

Launching June 6, this captivating series promises to explore the heart and soul of American classical music in a way that will leave listeners both enlightened and inspired. Whether you are a seasoned aficionado or a newcomer to the world of classical music, “Classical Americana” offers something for everyone.

This series delves into the rich tapestry of American musical heritage, in search of the sounds, people, stories, and landscapes that have shaped America’s unique classical tradition. Throughout this summer we will travel to the Wild West with Aaron Copland’s “Billy the Kid”; to the city that never sleeps, with Gershwin capturing the soul of New York in the roaring ’20s; and to the heart of Hollywood with John Williams.

Join us every Thursday at 9pm, on 90.3 WHRO-FM or stream online, as Lara Downes takes us on a road trip through the highways and byways of American music. Let the adventure begin!

You may have seen Lara onstage recently, when she was here in Hampton Roads performing with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra! Check out her conversation with Raymond Jones here.
