Honoring Heroes: Memorial Day Music on WHRO-FM

As Memorial Day approaches, WHRO-FM invites you to join us in commemorating the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. On Monday, May 27, we’ll hear from great American composers throughout the day, including Aaron Copland, George Whitefield Chadwick, Florence Price, Morton Gould, and more. That evening at 9:00 PM, Raymond Jones presents a special program dedicated to honoring our heroes through the power of music. Highlights of the evening include William Grant Still’s 'In Memoriam: The Colored Soldiers Who Died For Democracy 1943', Alfredo Casella’s 'Heroic Elegy - In Memory of Soldiers Who Died In War', Eduard Tubin’s 'Requiem for Fallen Soldiers', Don Gillis’ Symphony No. 5 'In Memoriam' from 1945, and Eric Ewazen’s 'A Hymn for the Lost and Living'. Concluding the program is John Williams’ 'Summon the Heroes,' a stirring anthem that celebrates courage and resilience.

Join us for an evening of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance as we pay homage to the brave men and women who have served our nation. Listen Monday, May 27, on WHRO-FM orstream online. Let the power of music unite us in honoring our heroes this Memorial Day.
