Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month through Classical Music

In May we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, recognizing the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. In honor of this significant occasion, WHRO-FM is pleased to present a two-hour special titled "Friendship and Harmony: Celebrating Asian and Pacific Americans in Classical Music." Hosted by Suraj Partha, an on-air host and content creator for Classical California, this program highlights some of the AAPI classical musicians and composers who have shaped the sound of classical music in America, like Yo-Yo Ma and Silkroad Ensemble, Queen Liliuokalani, Jiji, Mahani Teave, Anne-Akiko Myers, Christopher Tin, Reena Esmail, Jon Nakamatsu, Kent Nagano, and Midori.

This special will air on Thursday, May 23, from 9 to 11 p.m. on 90.3 WHRO-FM. Tune in for a unique musical journey celebrating the richness and diversity of Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage in classical music!
