WHRO Public Media Delivers Chromebooks to Northampton County Public Schools

Students in Northampton County Public Schools will enjoy new learning activities thanks to an anonymous donation. WHRO Public Media connected the donor with the school system, and the donor recently purchased and donated 55 Dell Chromebooks that will be used for students.

Superintendent of Northampton Country Public Schools Dr. Lisa Martin said the laptops would help the school system replace some aging computers and increase services provided by their mobile teaching labs. They will also allow the school system to expand its one-to-one program in grades 6-12. The Chromebooks are useful because students do not need to have wifi to use them.

“We’re able to download resources onto our Chromebooks, so regardless of where students live in Northampton County, whether there is internet access or not, we’re still able to continue with instruction across the day, across the evening, across the weekend, so across their entire experience while they’re with us resources are available,” Martin explained.

Last year the school received a similar donation of $25,000 of educational equipment that included several Viewsonic interactive presentation panels and several document cameras.

“We’re thrilled to be able to do this,” said WHRO CEO and President Bert Schmidt. ”WHRO is owned by a collaboration of 21 school divisions, including Northampton, so whenever we can provide services or provide additional resources to the divisions, it really goes to the core of what WHRO is all about.”
