'Pickin' and 'Acoustic Highway' Celebrate Women's History Month

In celebration of Women's History Month both Pickin' and the Acoustic Highway will feature some of the trailblazing female artists who have shaped Americana Music. Pickin' returns to the golden era of Country Music with many of the great female artists who helped launch the genre. We'll hear selections from Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Goldie Hill, Patsy Cline, and the queen of Country Music, Kitty Wells. Wells broke the glass ceiling for women in country music with her 1952 hit "It Wasn't God who made Honky Tonk Angels," which made her the first female country singer to top the country charts. And, the Acoustic Highway features many of the local and regional female artists who over the years have appeared on the program including Tret Fure, Narissa Bond, Pam Gurley, Amy Ferebee, and Eastern Shore based artist Thelma Jarvis Peterson. We'll also hear from Tracy Chapman, Iris Dement, and other wonderful singer-songwriters. It's a true celebration of female artistry on both Pickin' and The Highway. Sunday night, Pickin' begins at 7 p.m. and the Highway at 9 p.m. Join us on-air, or listen anytime on-demand.
