'Pickin on WHRV': The Johnson Mountain Boys

pickin 1200

This Sunday, Pickin' on WHRV brings you music from the Johnson Mountain Boys. Formed in the mid-70s as a part of the thriving Northern Virginia/Washington, DC Bluegrass music scene, the band would reject the movement towards a more progressive sound and stick with the more traditional approach to Bluegrass. The band would eventually release countless albums and tour extensively including stops at venues such as The White House, and Carnegie Hall. Founding member Dudley Connell would later go to work with the Bluegrass super group Longview and today continues to be featured on countless recordings and projects. And, Eddie Stubbs, the fiddle player for the group, eventually became an announcer for the Grand Ole Opry while also working with the Queen of Country Music, Kitty Wells. In 2020, The Johnson Mountain Boys were inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. Tune in for a listen to this hard-hitting traditional Bluegrass band on Pickin' on Sunday night at 7 on 89.5 FM. You can also listen online anytime.89.
