Pickin' Celebrates The Legendary Earl Scruggs

pickin 1200

On this week’s Pickin', we honor the 100th birthday of the legendary Earl Scruggs. Born in January 1924, Scruggs would become a dominant force in Bluegrass music after leaving Bill Monroe’s band and teaming with Lester Flatt. Flatt and Scruggs would go on to a storied career as one of the most dominant first-generation artists of the genre. Scruggs received four Grammy awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a National Medal of Arts. He became a member of the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We’ll feature his work and other greats of the banjo on this week’s Pickin'. Sunday night at 7:00 on 89.5 FM.
