Join us this Thursday evening at 9:00 on WHRO FM 90.3 for a captivating Classical Americana edition hosted by Lara Downes. This week our summer road trip will continue with musical seeds sown in our American soil: a bouquet from Scott Joplin, Caroline Shaw contemplating how we take care of the ground beneath our feet, Florence Price honoring the strength and endurance of the mighty oak tree, and Leonard Bernstein reminding up to make our gardens grow.

Following Classical Americana, stay tuned at 10:00 for a unique musical exploration with Raymond Jones. Ever wondered what happens when renowned conductors take up the pen and compose? Raymond Jones has curated a fascinating program featuring works by some of the most iconic conductors who also made their mark as composers.

We’ll begin with Bruno Walter’s powerful Symphony in d. Next, we will enjoy the delightful and spirited “Merry Waltz” by Otto Klemperer. The evening will continue with Victor de Sabata’s “The Night of Plato” and Felix Weingartner’s “King Lear”, a work that brings the tragic tale of Shakespeare’s classic to life. Finally, we’ll wrap up with the Lento from "Symphonic Reflections" by Yevgeny Svetlanov.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear how some of the greatest conductors of all time expressed their musical visions through composition. Tune in for Classical Americana with Lara Downes at 9:00 PM and stay with us for Raymond Jones’ special presentation at 10:00 PM, all on WHRO-FM 90.3. And remember you can also stream online for an evening full of classics that promise intrigue, delight, and inspiration.
