Sea Level New Singer/Songwriter Contest Call for Entries, Contest is April 11 at The New Belmont

Area Emerging Artists will get the spotlight at Sea Level New Singer/Songwriter Contest April 11 at The New Belmont

The Sea Level Singer Songwriter Festival wants to help 'discover' the best emerging artists in our area.  We are accepting an open call from new singer/songwriters for a live contest to be held at the New Belmont, 2117 Colonial Avenue in Norfolk at 6 p.m. on April 11.  Anyone interested in participating should submit two MP3s of original songs via email to sealevelcontest@cox.net and mail a $15 check payable to TAO/Contest to Tidewater Arts Outreach, 512 Twelve Oaks Court, Chesapeake, VA  23322. Entries must be postmarked by March 27, 2009.

Entries can be a previous recording or a demo made in the kitchen (or anything in between). Entries will be judged on content versus recording quality to determine who makes the final cut. Tidewater Arts Outreach (TAO) will select the best ten entries to appear live for the final live showcase.  Each artist will be invited to sing one song, solo and acoustic.  The top three entrants will be asked to perform a second song that evening.

Finalists for the April 11 event will be announced on April 6 via email.  The winner of the live performance will be determined by the judges.  The winner will be celebrated as the best emerging singer/songwriter and will be invited to perform live on Public Radio's Out of the Box with Paul Shugrue and Hunter Hughes' Hunter at Sunrise.  The winner will also be given a slot on the line up for the 3rd Annual Sea Level Singer/Songwriter Festival in 2010.

To qualify, each singer/songwriter needs to:
·         Live within 100 miles of Norfolk, VA
·         Not have a released a full length album
·         Mail a $15 entry fee, postmarked by midnight, March 27, 2009
·         Email two MP3 files, each with one original song, and the (text) accompanying lyrics, by March 31, 2009 to sealevelcontest@cox.net.
·         Be able to appear live at The New Belmont on April 11

Contest judges are Paul Shugrue, DJ, WHRV Out of the Box, Annie Johnson, local singer/songwriter, Hunter Hughes, DJ, for hunteronsunrise.com and Sam McDonald, feature writer and music reporter for The Daily Press.

Proceeds from the event will be used to support Tidewater Arts Outreach.
