From television shows like the wildly popular CSI franchise to bestselling novels, such as Patricia Cornwall’s Kay Scarpetta series, audiences can’t seem to get enough of the gritty world of forensic science.  But what is fact and what is fiction in these portrayals?  And how does one end up specializing in the science of the dead?  Today on House Calls, Pat talks with Dr. Marcella Fierro, Chief Medical Examiner for the Commonwealth of Virginia – and some say the basis for Kay Scarpetta – and Dr. Leah Bush, Deputy Medical Examiner for the Tidewater District, about the unusual field of forensic pathology.
