Knowledge is the best medicine. Our advice on House Calls is based on short conversation and no physical examination-not the way medicine should be practiced. We encourage you to read more about our topics by going to the library or on the Internet, then make an appointment and really talk with your doctor.

BATTLING BREAST CANCER

Did you know:
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women?
Every 3 minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, and every 13 minutes, a woman dies from breast cancer?
There are over 2 million breast cancer survivors in the United States?
An estimated 1,720 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006?
African American women have the highest rate of breast cancer death than any other ethnic group?

Today on House Calls, we discuss breast cancer detection, treatment, survivorship, and the latest research with Dr. Eric Feliberti of Eastern Virginia Medical School's Virginia Center for Breast Cancer Awareness, Dr. Ira Miller, breast surgeon with Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, and Cynthia Horen, breast cancer survivor with the Susan G. Komen Foundation Tidewater affiliate.  We'll also hear about several local events to raise awareness while raising spirits.
