Knowledge is the best medicine. Our advice on House Calls is based on short conversation and no physical examination-not the way medicine should be practiced. We encourage you to read more about our topics by going to the library or on the Internet, then make an appointment and really talk with your doctor.

MEDICAL TOURISM
Tourists traveling abroad usually flock to sandy beaches and exotic locales, not medical clinics and hospitals. But as health care costs skyrocket at home, growing numbers of Americans are choosing to have critical and elective medical procedures done overseas at a fraction of the cost in the United States. Today on House Calls, we'll explore this phenomenon with Dr. Malcolm Paul, US National Secretary of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Dr. Andrew Balas, Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Old Dominion University, and Tom Keesling, President of IndUShealth, a Raleigh, NC based medical travel agency. We'll also hear about the experiences of two patients who traveled to Costa Rica and India for surgery.
