Did you know we have over 40 million olfactory receptors in our nose and that 1 percent of our genes are devoted to the sense of smell?  Yet only recently have researchers begun to figure out just how the olfactory system works and how it affects important functions such as reproduction, memory, and emotion.  Today on House Calls, we talk with Dr. Alan Hirsch of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago about the amazing but little known olfactory system and its disorders.
