PTSD
Those four little letters carry an awful lot of meaning. Post-traumatic stress disorder impacts approximately 18 percent of American service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, yet only about half of those in need of treatment seek it. Today we'll talk with Captain Edward Simmer, Senior Executive Director for Psychological Health at the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury about the treatment options available to active duty and veteran service personnel and their families. We'll also hear from local author and Marine Clint Van Winkle who recently published a memoir on his experience coping with PTSD titled Soft Spots: A Marine's Memoir of Combat and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
