YourSay
We open up our lines to hear from you about the stories and headlines that are catching your attention today on HearSay. Call us during the show at 440-2665 or 1-800-940-2240 or post your comments on our Facebook page. We'll also bring you a conversation with Brian Eule, the author of a book about 'Match Day' which is largely unknown outside the medical community. It's the day when a complicated computer algorithm pairs students with hospital residencies in nearly every field of medicine. The Match determines where each graduate will be assigned the crucial first job as an intern, and shapes the rest of his—or, in increasing numbers, her—life.

Grasshoppers
by Patrick Evans-Hylton
Brownie ingredients:
1 stick butter
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Mint extract
Frosting ingredients:
Prepared butter cream frosting
(email me for my favorite recipe: patrickevanshylton@gmail.com)
1 teaspoon mint extract
Green food coloring
Also: almond slivers and miniature chocolate chips
Method:
Preheat oven to 325F. In saucepan, melt butter and add cocoa, stirring to mix, then remove from heat. Add sugar and eggs to a mixing bowl, stir together, and pour into saucepan. Add flour, vanilla and baking powder and stir to mix well. Place paper muffin tin liners in pan and, using a spoon, fill each liner mostly to the top. Place the filled muffin tin into the oven and bake about 30 minutes; brownies are done when a toothpick inserted in the middle of one of the muffins comes out clean. Remove the brownies, pour a little mint extract in a bowl, and, while brownies are still warm, brush tops with extract using a pastry brush. Brownies should cool before icing.
For icing, drizzle mint extract into prepared butter cream frosting and stir. Add enough green food coloring to your liking and stir to mix well. Use a spoon to put a dollop of icing on top of each brownie and add sliver almonds to mimic wings and miniature chocolate chips to mimic eyes.
