February 2nd will mark the 50th anniversary of the end of Massive Resistance marking the desegregation of public schools. Today Patricia Turner, a member of the Norfolk 17, and Mary Jane Birdsong, a member of the Lost Class of '59, will join us in the studio to share their memories of that time and reflect on the impact that it has had on their lives.

The Juvenile Justice System
Experts in the field of Juvenile Justice will gather this weekend at Old Dominion University for a town hall meeting that aims to explore the causes of, and possible solutions to, the overrepresentation of minorities in the Juvenile Justice System. We'll speak with several panel members prior to the meeting and discuss the impact that suspected gang violence is having on the youth incarceration rate. Guests: Norfolk City Councilwoman Daun Hester, Shay Bilchik, Director of the Center for Juvenile Justice Reform at Georgetown University Public Policy Institute and Clinton Lacey of the W. Haywood Burns Institute for Juvenile Justice Fairness and Equality.
