Are You Ready for Some ODU Football?

Football players last took to the field for Old Dominion University in 1940. That original program was ended due to poor attendance and boy have times changed. Demand has been even higher than anticipated for season tickets leading up to the kickoff of a new era of ODU football on September 5th. We'll talk with Monarchs' football Head Coach Bobby Wilder and reporter Rich Radford who is covering the team for the Virginian-Pilot today on HearSay.

What's Cookin' Wednesday - The Informed Eater

Our favorite foodie, Patrick Evans-Hylton, joins us in the studio today. We'll talk with Dr. David Kessler, former commissioner of the FDA, author of The End of Overeating about why it's so hard to say 'no' to some foods. We also speak with Dr. John LaPuma and local chef and cookbook author Janie Jacobson about maximizing the nutritional benefit in what you eat so that you get the most out of your meals. Join us!

Studio Snack:
Tomato Dipping Sauce

From Chef Patrick Evans-Hylton
www.patrickevanshylton.com

3/4 cup tomato juice (I prefer homemade)
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 clove garlic, minced
1-1/2 teaspoons sugar (I prefer a natural, unrefined sugar)
1-1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Place all ingredients in a large bowl (or blender) and whisk to thoroughly incorporate.
To serve, pour in a bowl olive oil on a 1:2 ratio of oil to dipping sauce.
Check Patrick's blog – www.patrickevanshylton.com - for a homemade tomato juice recipe.
