Segment A: Headlines: General Assembly, Degrees of Separation
Virginians efforts to ban lighting up in restaurants and public places are up in smoke.  We'll have all the latest news from the General Assembly and take your questions and comments.  And we'll talk about presidential transitions on college campuses.  It's a situation both ODU and William and Mary now face.  For both new presidents and their institutions, the leadership transition is an
intense experience with serious ramifications for the success of the new leader's tenure.

Segment B: Dr. Maryanne Wolf
Did you ever wonder how the brain learns to read?  Cathy talks to Dr. Maryanne Wolf, Director of the Center for Reading and Language Research at Tufts University. Her book, Proust and the Squid: The Story and Science of the Reading Brain, explores the history and biology of how
our reading brain works.  It also confronts the possibility that reading as we have always known it may, with modern technology -from television to the internet- change to soon make traditional books a thing of the past.

Segment A: Just a Girl
There is much new scientific evidence that girls are achieving puberty earlier than they used to.  Many factors including obesity and environmental issues have been cited as possible triggers.  Nutritional expert David Sandoval says that the poor diets many children have these days is the biggest factor.   Sandoval, author of The Green Foods Bible, and Barbara Benson, a nutritionist at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and director of the Healthy You program, join us to talk about it on today’s HearSay.

Segment B: Menopause and Memory
We’ll consider the myths and realities of menopause including those feelings of forgetfulness that often occur.  Guest host Barbara Hamm talks to Dr. Lee Coleman Hinnant of Bon Secours and Martha Weinman Lear, the author of Where Did I Leave My Glasses? The What, When and Why of Normal Memory Loss, which examines the twin issues of memory loss and aging.   How much forgetfulness is normal, when does it occur and what can be done about it?
