This Week on HearSay,  March 26-29, 2007

Monday, March 26
Segment A: Garry Wills

From t-shirts to bumper stickers the message asks What would Jesus do?  It prompted historian and Catholic scholar Garry Wills to ponder - What did Jesus mean? In his latest book, "What Jesus Meant" Wills urges readers to question their understanding of Jesus and to examine what Jesus actually said about how Christians should live their lives.

Segment B: Kurt Neilson
"Urban Iona: Celtic Hospitality in the City" is about Episcopal priest Kurt Neilson's search for his family's story, and the meaning and inspiration that story brought to his life and his ministry.  He talks to Cathy about how he put into action the unique brand of Celtic spirituality he took away from his pilgrimage, in the form of Brigid's Table, a ministry to prostitutes and other marginalized people in the inner city of Portland, Oregon.

The Long and Winding Road
There is finally a transportation bill that includes $200 million earmarked to ease traffic woes in Hampton Roads, but Governor Kaine and some state lawmakers remain at odds over how to pay for it.  The governor wants a gas tax rather than taking money from the general fund as recommended in the current bill.  Can a compromise be reached?  We'll have all the latest transportation news on today's HearSayGuests: Pierce Homer, Virginia Secretary of Transportation, Hugh Lessig, reporter - The Daily Press, and Virginian Pilot Editorial Page Editor Dennis Hartig.

Wednesday, March 28
Jamestown: A Chronicle of Adversity
We'll begin the first of a two part focus on the early settlement of Jamestown in partnership with the Virginian - Pilot.  For those first settlers, there was a steady dose of things gone wrong - from crime and corruption to economic struggle and starvation.  We'll look at just how close the English experiment came to failing on today's HearSayGuests: Author Peter Wallenstein - "Cradle of America: Four Centuries of Virginia History", Bill Henry, Deputy managing editor for Enterprise, and Maria Carrillo, Managing Editor of the Virginian Pilot.

PET HEALTH
HearSay's favorite veterinarian Phyllis Neumann joins Cathy in the studio to talk about your pet problems.  Call in with your questions on all things furry, feathered, and finned.  We'll also visit with photographer Amanda Jones, whose work is on display in the new book "A Breed Apart: A Celebration of the New American Mutt".  It's a collection of stunning black-and-white portraits of uniquely blended dogs.
