BRIDGING THE MEMORY GAP
School's just about out for summer, but does vacation hurt students?  As educators face pressure to raise test scores, experts say a shorter break can help kids retain what they've learned.  Parents are split over whether that's worth sacrificing their children's summers and family time.   We'll talk about summer learning retention and find out what the voices of Hampton Roads have to say about it on today's HearSay.

GOING TO THE CHAPEL
The divorce rate in America is at its lowest since 1970.  What’s behind that decline?  Some say it's because more couples are choosing not to tie the knot. Other researchers point to “the divorce divide,” divorce rates are falling substantively among college-educated couples but not among less-affluent, less-educated couples.  On today's HearSay, a conversation on marriage.  Guests: David Popenoe, Professor of Sociology Emeritus at Rutgers University and founder and Co-Director of the National Marriage Project; Dyana Mason, Executive Director at Equality Virginia;and Kay Hymowitz, William E. Simon fellow at the Manhattan Institute and author of the new book "Marriage and Caste in America: Separate and Unequal Families in a Post-Marital Age."

PUMPED UP
Segment A: GAS PAINS
Up, up, up - that's been the norm for prices at the pumps.  The national average price for gasoline has soared just in time for summer travel.  What is the cost of even a penny increase in gasoline to consumers?  Can hybrids really help?  And what additional toll will hurricane season have?  We'll discuss the pinch at the pumps in this segment.

Segment B: BIODIESEL BUZZ
It's touted as one of the best ways to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil and one could soon be coming to Hampton Roads.  A massive alternative fuel refinery is being considered in Chesapeake along the Elizabeth River's Southern Branch.  How would it work?  What are the environmental concerns?  Can it help ease the price of fuel?  A look at alternative energy in our second half hour.
