WHRO DOCUMENTARY ACCEPTED BY INTERNATION FILM FESTIVAL
Kingdom by the Sea…Fortress Monroe Will be Screened in New York on February 29th

NORFOLK:  The WHRO documentary KINGDOM BY THE SEA…Fortress Monroe has been accepted in the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival, and will have a screening in New York on Friday, February 29th.
A production of WHRO’s Center for Regional Citizenship, Kingdom by the Sea…Fortress Monroe explored the history, reviewed the debate and considered the future of Fort Monroe as the U.S. Army plans to vacate by 2011.  When a state appointed Fort Monroe Federal Area Development Authority or FADA was authorized to decide, a passionate community debate ensued.

Kingdom by the Sea…Fortress Monroe was produced by the WHRO Center for Regional Citizenship and directed by Amy Broad of Rock Eagle Productions. The Center for Regional Citizenship is a multi-platform initiative to engage the citizens of Hampton Roads in discussions of local interest.  Under the direction of Kelly Jackson, the Center for Regional Citizenship extends the impact of public broadcasting with a goal to build civic, social and educational capital in Hampton Roads.

Founded in 1993, The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival is the largest film festival in the world.  Recognized as one of the leading film events on the independent festival circuit, the NYIIFVF hosts film, music and art events.  Past festivals have included the work of Abel Ferrara, Andy Garcia, Calista Flockhart, Ewan McGregor, Cameron Diaz, Christopher Walken, Daryl Hannah, George Clooney, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Modine, Rod Steiger, Tippi Hedren, Tony Danza, Willem Dafoe and Executive Producer Vin Diesel.
