Hello, Members and Friends of WHRO!
Money is like (fertilizer) – it’s not worth a thing unless it's spread around, encouraging young things to grow.
That quote – or some variation of it – is variously attributed to Francis Bacon, Brooke Astor and J. Paul Getty. But the version we like best is the one that Thornton Wilder wrote for his heroine, Dolly Levi, the subject of Hello Dolly. As we head into warmer weather, WHRO is thinking about making things grow. The lure of a plot of land, whether devoted to fruits, vegetables, flowers or herbs – or any combination – can be overwhelming.
Making things grow is always top of mind at WHRO, and that’s why Dolly’s quote hits home. Your membership dollars are the fertilizer that allows us to grow the programming that educates, entertains and enriches your lives. During our recent television and radio drives, members responded enthusiastically, and we’re grateful to every one of you who called in a pledge or contributed online. Every one of you is responsible for our growth and continued success.
As we approach the end of our fiscal year, we still need the help of our viewers and listeners to make our overall radio and television fundraising goals, so we can sustain a healthy growth and continue to expand the programming you value. If you haven’t made a contribution to WHRO this year, we hope you’ll take a little bit of advice from Dolly Levi, and make a pledge before June 30th. Just contribute online, or call us at 757.889.9400.
Whatever your level of interest in making things grow – whether you’re an avid gardener, someone who just enjoys planting a few bulbs every year, or someone who just appreciates the results , you’ll find a month’s worth of ideas, innovations and information on public radio and television – and even some recipes for that bumper crop of cucumbers!
