Angelica is currently the President and CEO of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation and Henry is an attorney with Crenshaw, Ware & Martin. These individuals embody the true spirit of the Pioneer Awards - they lead by excellent example and have been long-time supporters throughout the Hampton Roads community, notably in public broadcasting, the arts, and education. Their outstanding leadership spreads across a diverse group of organizations, including WHRO.
Angelica joined the staff of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation in 1999 and has successfully increased the foundation's focus on early childhood education. The past year, the foundation awarded more than $12 million in grants and scholarships. Prior to joining the foundation, Angelica worked as an attorney for Norfolk Southern Corporation and Shenandoah Life Insurance Company in Roanoke, at the Virginia Bar Association and the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association. She is a graduate of Smith College and the Washington and Lee School of Law. Angelica is also a graduate of the CIVIC Leadership Institute.
Henry is "of counsel" to the law firm of Crenshaw, Ware and Martin, P.L.C. His present legal position follows a 32-year career with Norfolk Southern Corporation and its predecessor, Norfolk and Western Railway. At Norfolk Southern Corporation, he retired as Senior Vice President Law and Chief Legal Officer. He attended college at the Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute on a Naval ROTC scholarship, graduated in engineering and was commissioned as officer in the Navy. He served in the Navy from 1962 to 1966 and then attended law school at the University of Virginia. Henry is involved in many non-profit organizations and serves on the Board of Directors for WHRO, the Chrysler Museum, Randolph-Macon Academy, and the Hampton Roads Center for Civic Engagement. Finally, Henry is Vice Rector of Norfolk State University Board of Visitors.
