The Great Dismal Swamp ecosystem is one of the largest unbroken expanses of forested wetland habitats on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. Man and the Great Dismal Swamp is the result of an unusual partnership between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, local educators, industry, environmental groups, and resource management professional organizations. The teacher's guide includes background material and interactive exercises. The two-video programs give elementary students in the classroom a view of the Swamp through the eyes of the local students in the video experiencing what they experience, as they visit different areas of the swamp. The program is divided into two modules. Part one deals with the ecosystems of the swamp and what can be found there in terms of wildlife. Part two deals with the history and human influences on the swamp. SOL correlation: H: 4.1, 4.2, 10.2, 10.3, 10.15.
